It’s been an interesting year for Srilankan politics, we started with all the hype about Fonseka becoming the President, but instead of Temple Trees, he went to jail, hence ending the alliance with the JVP. But it was quite ‘refreshing’ to see two parties with so many differences come together for a common goal, regardless of what they were gunning for. I mean as we all know, none of our politicians are truly self-less, but then again I can’t think of any Srilankan who is selfless, only one I can think of right now off the top of my head is Hasalaka Gamini, and on that note, all the other soldiers who went to war. Yes, a lot of people don’t know who Hasalaka Gamini is.
Coming back to the point, despite all the cynics and pessimists, Srilanka is on the road to development and prosperity. True that the nepotism, corruption, etc exists but the big picture seems to be getting better. A lot of people talk about us being China’s bitch, but can we do without the aid? Srilanka is by no means self-subsistent and we’ve just come out of fighting a long war where more than Rs 100 billion would have been spent annually during the latter part of the conflict, we can’t do without a sugar daddy. For a change I think people should go with the flow instead of complaining.
I mean it’s not like there is any point in complaining anyway, either it falls on deaf ears or if heard, the last thing you see is a white van. But on a serious note, all the young politicians in parliament this time, infrastructure development and now the release of Tissainayagam are all positives that we should be happy about I guess. God Bless Srilanka
