Torture and Bimbos

As the plane started moving, tears filled her eyes, mixed emotions weighted her chest, hope that in what she was doing, she could take better care of her family. At the same time, sadness, because she had to leave her beloved loved ones behind to do so. As the plane took off she said her prayers, prayer in thanks and prayer in fear, fear of the uncertainties and toils that faced her in an unknown land. Closing her eyes and wiping the tears away, took a deep breath and put on a brave face, nothing on her mind except the suffering in the eyes of her loved ones and that commitment in her soul to work hard and give them a better life. Her nerves calm, she sat back and watched the sun setting over the clouds.

But as we all know, things didn’t turn out as she had hoped, and L.G Ariyawathi came back brutally tortured by her employers, from whom she’d hoped to earn an honest living from. Instead of Riyals, all she got from them were scars and metal objects shoved into her body. I cannot fathom what her employers were thinking but this isn’t humane and the way I see it, sometimes that goes against the United Nations law on Human Rights. But that being said, I’m sure they aren’t going to do anything about it.

Shouldn’t it be our country that does something about it? Shouldn’t we stop sending people to this barbaric land? But I don’t think it’s going to happen, there is too much foreign exchange generated by them, we can’t afford to lose. One positive is that she is being given compensation, but can any amount of compensation take away what she just gone through? I think not and people are going to forget about her soon and instead talk about this new Miss Universe contestant.

Of course I’m sure everyone has seen the video and  there have been many comments about what’s wrong where. Many say that she misrepresents Sri Lanka, but then, what if, she is the best representation of us? Has anyone considered the fact that the larger part of our demographic is just like her?

  1. why cant the male bread of these poverty stricken families stand up and get himself off to find a living, then i don’t think scars like this will remain.

  2. It’s something that can not be stopped. I feel bloody helpless when I look at that lady. It’s just so hard to fathom. Can humans be so cruel an inhumane? Really sad. Lets hope justice will be served.

    Cheers!

  3. Yeah, it’s also the fact that these people want to go to the Middle East ’cause they know they can earn a lot more there. Which is why they are eager to leave. Though, seriously, I just don’t understand how ANYONE can torture someone else like that. I think there’s something mentally wrong with the people there! And no, I don’t think any amount of compensation can cancel out what she’s been through.

As for the Miss Universe thing, I checked out videos by other contestants and they’re all atrocious! The comments were similar to what the Sri Lankan lot had commented on our contestant’s video, that is to the effect that they were surprised by how the particular girl was selected to represent their country and what a bimbo she is…

I think it’s not an issue with the girls, it’s the entire competition! And making the girls make animal noises is just ridiculous. If this competition wanted to include brains with looks they’d have asked them intelligent questions. But they didn’t.

And that’s ’cause women are still being treated as objects. I mean just check out the Miss Universe website, you’ll see that these girls have been rated! Like they’re not human, instead they’re commodities! That’s an inhumanity there as well.
